Hi All

Just getting back into my family history after a lapse of some 8 years.  My line stem from Chilham then back to John(1420) i have always found a lot of confusion round the Chilham Knowler's, with the early rich ones and then my line but intermingled with my line is some other Knowlers that at the moment can't figure out, but now i am retired hope to make some headway.

If i can be of any help please ask, as i have loads of info on unconnected Knowler's mostly from Kent.

I was born and bred in Kent and still here.

Anyway i wish you all a happy New Year.

Hello Chris, how lovely to hear from you, I would be grateful for any help that you can give me with my Knowler line. I have Elizabeth Knowler c. 1723 in Crundale she was the daughter of Henry Knowler and Mary Hudson who were married 1720 in Wye, the family then moved to Waltham where Henry died in 1736, there is a note in Waltham PR's which gives his age as 41, I wonder if he could be the son of John and Elizabeth Knowler of Adisham.

Kind regards, Brenda

Hi Brenda

Waltham Crundale Chilham Godmersham all within a few miles of each other, are the areas where i have found a lot of confusion over the years.  I searched the pr for Waltham some years ago and if i remember were a lot unreadable, with only finding 3 Knowlers in the 1800s which i thought at the time must be connected to me some how but never found the link, considering Waltham is only along the road from Chilham.

I will have a look in my box (loft at the moment) of unrelated sometime see if i have any information.

Regards Chris

Hello Chris many thanks for all the info. I have found a christening of a John Knowler 3 May 1676 s. of John and Catherine Knowler, St. Alphage, Canterbury, which I shall keep a note of.
Regarding John and Elizabeth Knowler, in Adisham, they c. 2 children there, Elizabeth 1693, Henry 1696, I wondered if this is the same family that the started to have children in Wye from 1698 onwards.

Regards, Brenda

The problem is with the common christian names their is so many John and Elizabeth about it is hard to find out what one is what is what.

Pity there was no BMD index and census then, make things a lot easy, but then take the fun away.
