what a blast from the past, would love to chat to you or your Mum, have often wondered how they got on after they left Gubbata, although I was very young and don't remember much, it was a very tough  lonely time, I posted my info on this board a long time ago and thought someone, perhaps the original enquirer would contact me but none did.
Thet tell you not to put your email on this site, but if you or your Mum want to contact me, it phillippotter1@yahoo.com.au

Hi there
My mum Marian ( Lily and Susie's younger sister) went to live with Lily and Jim to help look after Don and Eileen before " Lenny" was born. She ended up staying about 3 years . Jim went off to war and Lily developed cancer. My dad (Vic Alston) took Lily, Marian and children to Dooragog in his car.....his first meeting with his future mother-in-law and all the extended Piddington family!
After taking Lily to Sydney for surgery Marian rented a house in Peak Hill and nursed Lily until her death about 2 years later. Dad and Mum were married just before Lily died . I have a copy of a letter sent by Lily to Aunty Hida ( our Grandma Rosa's sister) telling her about Mum and Dad's wedding and how she had to save all her strength to walk across the road to the church in Peak Hill where Mum was married.
It was an absolute joy to see Evelyn again recently and meet Eileen's daughters Heather and Coral!
Pity it was such a fleeting visit to Melbourne!

Thank you for your message, I have been in correspondence with Everlyns family, Everlyb doesn't drive a computer. I had wondered for years what happened to the family, I remember Vic Alston although I was very small, he did some plumbing work on water tanks on our farm, perhaps he was a plumber or just a very handy man. Did he go and farm on King Island or ddid I imadgine that.  It has been wonderful to catch up with after all these years, its hard to describe those times now. We wnt by horse and sulky to visit them through the mallee, coming home itwas pitch dark but the old horse knew the way.
I don't remember your Mum but if she was there for three years I must have met her. If I go back to Gubbata I will go to the Pratt farm and take some photos for you all, I don't travel much now as I am kidney dialysis and there are no machines at Gubbata!!
Thanks again for your message, love to keep in touch
regards
Phillip Potter

 Hi Analstoninoz,

I went to school in Peak Hill with a Margaret Alston. She is in my 1954 school photo. Julie Piddington was in the same class.

Interesting to read this thread. I am new to the forum. My grandfather William spent a good deal of his life living in Wheatley, Halifax and was directly related to the people in these posts. I am going through some family photos and memorabilia from my parents house at the moment.
