I have just looked at that and I understand it to be,

At Sa. John's Worcester. Mr Tibbetts to Miss M. Beasley - Mr J. Dobbins. of Broadway, to Miss E. Folkes.

Hi Lisa,

The link to this is extremely long and I'm not sure how to attach it here, so go to http://books.google.ca and in the search window enter New Monthly Magazine 1824 Vol XII

The specific reference I quoted is on page 95.

Hope this works for you,
Ruthmez

Thanks very much Ruthmex, the link is great.
I googled for it yesterday and didn't find it.

Hi,

We’ve just seen your post and as I am a Folkes from Broadway I will try and help with what little information I have uncovered in doing my tree.

I’m afraid I don’t have either the Emma Folkes that you mention or the John Dobbins showing up. If it helps at all though, the Mary mentioned above as being married to John Folkes and the mother of Richard Folkes was a Dobbins before marriage. I would guess it is possible that John Dobbins is a relation, a brother maybe, although I have no proof of this.

Good luck with your search!

Hi there

Just seen this post. I am distantly related to the Emma Folkes/ Dobbins mentioned. Not sure who the Richard Folkes is living in Broadway, though I'm guessing there must be some connection. Anyway, according to what I've found, Emma Folkes was one of 7 children of a Richard Folkes (army employee) and Judith Reynolds. The 7 children are listed in a will from 1854:
Caroline Tallance, Susannah Cotton, Louisa Frankes, Richard Folkes, Emma Dobbins, Harriot Saunders and Ellen Fenn (my gt gt gt grandmother) and Ellen's 2 children Frederick and Emma - my gt gt grandmother. Emma Dobbins' daughter Jane is shown living with Thomas Fenn (husband of Ellen) and Emma Fenn in 1861 in Kensington. Have a fair bit more information if anyone's interested. Like most branches of my family, no-one seems to have stayed put in one area, which makes the research harder. Again, not sure what connection the Richard Folkes (son of John) is to the above family, but since he married a Dobbins, it would seem there is certainly a link.

Best regards

Duncan

Hello there Duncan and others,

I have been trying to fit together all the relatives named by Matilda Sampson of Ramsgate in her will of 1857, which you Duncan mentioned.  The 7 or more children of Richard and Judith Folkes seem to have been born in widely separated areas including Richard jr and Emma in Ireland (as I have concluded like the earlier poster), based on them living next door in Broadway in that census.   But if anyone has any more information about them please put it here.
Rutter, Sampson, Swinerd, Head, Redman in Kent.  Others in Cheshire, Manchester, Glos/War/Worcs.
RUTTER family and Matilda Sampson's Will:

Hi John,

Since my first post about Emma Folkes I've discovered a fair amount about her family, including the information from Matilda Sampson's Will as shared by Duncan.  As he indicated in his post, the children of Judith Reynolds and Richard Folkes have such diverse birthplaces because Richard was in the Army.  I've lately been tracking his career through the Army Lists and can share that info with you along with what I've learned about Emma's siblings if this is of interest to you. I'd be interested in anything you know about Matilda and the rest of her family.

Please send me a personal message and I will pull the details together for you.
