Collins
« on: Tuesday 21 December 10 20:41 GMT (UK) »
In researching my ancestry, I arrived at John Collins, born in Diddington, Hunts before July 5, 1801 (when he was christened).  Every census lists he and his family (married Elizabeth Lee also of Diddington) living in Diddington.  Other researchers suggest that his parents are John Collins, born in 1773 in Farcet, Hunts, and Elizabeth Warren, born in 1775 in Farcet, who married in Farcet and apparently never went near Diddington.  Can anyone help me unravel this?

It looks to me as though there were two John and Elizabeths. One in Farcet, and another in Diddington. The Farcet couple married in Farcet in 1799. The Diddington couple baptised eight children in Diddington between 1789 and 1806.

The only other marriage of a John Collins was in 1788 at Southoe, a mile from Diddington: John Collins of Diddington and Elizabeth Madlock (per Hunts Marriage Index)

The other researchers are wrong!

I have Madlocks from Eltisley (5 miles from Southoe) in my tree. I suspect Elizabeth is connected to my lot, although I don't have any details of the Southoe branch - if my suspicion is correct she would be my 2nd cousin 6 times removed, so not exactly what you'd call close! I'll see what I can find out about her

Thanks, David.  Again you have provided me with information I didn't find (maybe because I'm in Canada).  Do you have any info on the eight children baptized by the Southoe couple (names and dates??)?

Thanks, again, David.  What source do you use to locate this?  I wonder whether I can acces it from this side of the Atlantic.

These are taken from the BVRI, a boxed CDRom set previously available from the LDS. The records are now on Ancestry so are certainly available in North America
