LDL, welcome to Rootschat.
You've asked specifically for anyone already searching for John Robertson, and it may be that nobody on the board is looking for him at present.
You obviously already have a fair bit of information on him - were you hoping to contact distant relatives descended from him, or are you still looking for further information?
It it's the latter, post what you are stuck on and let's see if we can help.

(have removed the bit about upper case because I've seen Jamjar's post below and realise I must have got that wrong. Sorry LDL if it confused you)

Greetings LDL

Go to the top of the page and you'll see 'Search'. You can type in John's name and anyone researching him will pop up in a list. First go to the bottom of the page to untick all the boxes and then just tick the location you're after. You can then click on any matches to read them.

Regarding the upper case letters. It's not a problem - you can even post in a variety of colours if you so choose -  and I'm not sure where Maggie gets the idea from. Sure doesn't shout at me, but different things annoy different folk, I guess.

Good luck with your seach and enjoy Rootschat.

Hi LDL.

Welcome To Rootschat. :)

Maggie1895's advice is contained in Rootschat's 'Guidelines to posting'
on this site's Help page. This is so-called 'Netiquette'.

Personally, capitals don't bother me, but it does help if just the
surnames are capitalised so they stand out, especially in subject lines.
This will help to attract the people you would like to read your post.

Another useful item on the Help pages deals with 'Getting the best
results'. This has been very useful for me.

It is highly likely that people who are not researching John will still
try and help you with lookups etc., so what information are you looking
for? Do you already have information on his children, do you have him
in the censuses? Is there anything in particular you want to find out?

Searching for Stirling Prison may also provide something of use.

Let us know what you need, and I'm sure someone will try to help.

Thank you for your replies.
Regarding above original message was sent by my daughter (who has absolutely no interest in family history) as a surprise for Xmas with relative details from a part page of a letter dated 1910 hence being in capitals.
I have previously corresponded with Stirling Prison but they advised having no information.
I have information on some of his children like births but no marriage and or death dates.
Census records for 1861 through 1881 also held.

It is possible that Stirling Prison records were sent for the attention of a local authority from time
to time. If you are very fortunate, there may be a governor's journal surviving.

Here is a little information: http://www.scottishrecordsassociation.org/newsrkv002.htm

Maggie Faill was my Great Grand Aunt - I have an object which may be of interest to LDL. As Emails are kept private not sure how we can make contact though. Its a Writing Box presented on his retirement as Govenor at Stirling Prison. Not in very good condition though. Tried to attach but too large.

John Robertson name as Govenor appears in one or two Post Office Directories which can be downloaded
