Nursall
« on: Thursday 23 December 10 14:33 GMT (UK) »
My great grandmother was  Mary Ann Nursall   born 1850 in North crawley, Bucks

I have been unable to trace her birth on Findmypast, but I have traced her marriage in 1873 in Lancashire.

Has anyone else got  Nursalls in their family tree,   please.

Hi

Failure to register a birth only became a fineable offence in 1874/75 so many births were unregistered prior to then

Thank you both.

When I get the marriage cert  I will have more details.    Marriage was in 1873 in West derby reg district of Lancashire.  Why did females leave home in that era, do you have any ideas?

Mostly to go into service. The distance sometimes is amazing. Trains began to cut down time for travelling so more areas became accessable espescially high industry areas where money could be made and some people were now making more money and could employ staff.
Let us know when you get the cert. I live in part of Milton Keynes so North Crawley is local to me but the library is not so accessible during the Christmas break.

I have looked up Mary Ann Nassan  on Findmypast,  and they are displaying Nassan as the surname.

Thank you. Are you anywhere near Bletcley Park?

That is near the Euston to Crewe  Liverpool Manchester Glasgow mainline.   Funny that,  As I have lived in various towns near to that line.

Bletchley park is just down the road. I live in Shenley Brook End one of the older parts of Milton Keynes. Alan Turing used to stay nearby.
Yep Wolverton Works and the railway shaped alot of families in the area.
I wont get into the library until after Christmas so could look at more then.
As to Nassau..... Nasaw alot are transcribed  as Nassan but it looks like Nassau on the original image.
 Have a great Christmas
