How would I find out when an ancestor left Englad and went to Canada?

Name William Gosling
born 1861 in Doncaster, England
married Lincolnshire England 1884
had a child in 1885 and possible another child afew years later. But on the census the children lived with grandparents.  I am not even certain they went to Canada.

Any help appreciated, as I don't know where to start

Hi
On the website: http://automatedgenealogy.com the 1901 census of Canada is being transcribed by volunteers.  We are approximately 2/3 of the way through.  There are many variations of the surname so it is possible you may find him there.  If you should find him, you can check the original census sheet via this site and it will tell you when he emmigrated.

Interest in all PESKETT references no matter how small.  Trying to piece together the PESKETTs whom mostly have come from Sussex, Surrey, Kent and Hampshire.

Yes, William Gosling is mine, he was married in Lincolnshire, but was sent away to Canada, were he remarried.

Thanks anyway
