Hello Deb,

A year later or years later on this site things still turn up.

We are looking at the same person for sure - Danial/Donald lived in all the places you have mentioned did all the jobs etc..you mentioned in previous postings.

My Donald Chisholm Cameron died 22 Sept. 1896 Mangalore.

How did you get on with the descendants of his sister...?

Cheers

Jamison

WOW!  How fabulous is that!  I double-checked and it was not the Eastern Chronicle but rather the Pictou Advocate which noted his death.  Jennie was his sister, and she died 20 April 1888, age 64.  Their mother, Jennie Chisholm Cameron died 18 Nov 1884, age 85. Hope the attachment is there...

Hello Deb
It worked and thanks for attaching it - just a bit confused with the date of J Ch. Cameron’s death !
I’m not a direct descendant of Donald/Danial Cameron and there are no direct descendants.
He was married to my direct ancestor Jane Davis/Jones/Cameron they did have 2 children but died very young as there are no records of them found - still looking for them.
He was married to Jane for nearly 30 years and was a very well-respected step-father to her children from previous marriages.
Are there many descendants of his sister Jennie ? Where do they live ?
We should construct a timeline of Donald/Danial to put all info. together.
Regards
Jamison

Verney Lovett Cameron was from  Weymouth, Dorset so likey not a relative, or at least not a close one..." he was employed for a considerable time in the suppression of the East African slave trade"
Perhaps the connection to Nova Scotia may have involved researching British Loyalist slaves in Nova Scotia & the move to Sierra Leone   Sounds as though they found gold and concentrated on that misson...  All Praise the Almighty dollar...  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verney_Lovett_Cameron  https://www.gutenberg.org/files/18506/18506-h/18506-h.htm

Here is Janet/Jennie on 2 censuses living with daughter Jessie.  If she was living with them it seems they could not have remained at odds.  It may have been the fault of the father, choosing favourites or Perhaps the fellows got the son's / male heirs crap / usual larger share of the pie so more had to be fought for?

Hello J.J
Thank you very much in posting the information on the family concerned.
It’s so nice to have more info. on the Cameron family after knowing very little about them for so long.
It’s nice to know that Donald/Duncan Cameron (son of Jessie) had family that remained in NS.
Life might have not been to kind to them with all having to bunk in with each other over time.
I lack the knowledge and understanding of how to research North American records.
But you have helped me to take more notice of how and where to look.
Again thank you for the info. and l will put it to good use.
Kindest regards
Jamison

Familysearch is a wonderful database. It is only as good as the volunteers who transcribe, though, as some are absolute aces...but a few are devil may care. Be careful as you will get many duplicates and also family trees which are often not entirely correct.  in this case there are duplicates galore.
Especially in the era being researched, where repetition of names can be very confusing, especially when fathers & sons are having children at exactly the same time, people are marrying cousins, and older widowers are marrying very young ladies who were thought to be caregiving parents for their existing children, but end up being vessels for another generation of children. Scottish naming may or may not apply as they are 2nd & 3rd generation Canadians...and without proper census taking being done prior to 1871...one's age seemingly more important that one's actual name.

Dear J.J.

Thanks for the tips - yes - l have had problems with names in the past and and...2nd and 3rd wives or husbands have also proved to be a stumbling block at times.

I have learnt to be careful with dates of birth and places of birth too.

I found a photo of Jessie and Hugh’s headstone in Riverton cemetery while poking around online.

Thanks again for the info.

Regards
