thanks for all your replys. much appreciated. george was supposedly born great yarmouth norfolk.but if he jumped ship did he tell lies to cover himself.on his marriage cert he says he was 21.have a possible ships list for a g. johnson 4th enginer Popler on board the BOTHWELL CASTLE crew list sydney aust 10/7/1890 he would have been 19/20.i also found an 1871 census with a william johnson aged 29 norfolk with wife elizabeth and 2 children ellen  and joshua but not sure on that one either. thanks lnr
