Marriage lookup?
« on: Friday 31 December 10 20:05 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Would it be possible for someone to see if there is a marriage in Scotland for a James Craig born c1830 ireland (shoemaker/grocer) and Mary bradley born c1832 ireland?, they had there first child in c1855 in scotland so the marriage will be around that time.

Thanks
Becky

Have you already tried the IGI and ScotlandsPeople?  The birth certificate of any child born 1855 or later will give the date and place of marriage as reported to the registrar.  Again these are viewable on ScotlandsPeople for a small fee.

There's also a thread on Ireland-General board where I've suggested checking Scotland's People for birth certificates to get date and place of marriage-

Hi shancai,

Will the 1861 census not be the English one as they were in Berwick Upon Tweed, which was in Scotland then changed again, worth checking the English 1861 census.

Hi

FamilysearchIGI has a birth transcribed from the Scottish Statutory Registers as follows.

John CRAIG born 2nd January 1855, Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. father James CRAIG, mother Mary BROADLY (sic)

Given the similarity of the mothers surname which could easily be a transcription error it would be well worth while downloading the image from Scotlandspeople. This should give you date and place of parents marriage.

Andy
