With regards to 'frequently occurring surnames', I've had a quick look at the death index from 1969-2005 and there are 38 entries for Wilfred Griffiths born 1915 +/- 5 years, 21 have a middle name, 17 don't. Of the 17, 5 were registered in Wales.

If he was born earlier than 1910 or died before 1969 when dates of birth were recorded on death certificates, there could be several more entries to consider.
