Contact them I'd say. With more details of which particular family/ies of people you have in that area.

Personally I'm happy for people to ask if we have a possible connection, even if we turn out not to...I would probably have a look at their posts first to see if I could find a conection there, but I haven't posted (yet) about all my family lines, so I guess it's the same with other people.

Contact them ...... and take it from there . You may have relatives in common you may not but every part of research is useful ... even the negatives, as at least you can discount certain lines of enquiry

Yes, contact them.

If someone has taken the time to enter their surname interests in the SIT (Surname Interests Table) then that means that they are looking to establish links with other people sharing the same surname interest.

Yes, certainly send them a PM just in case you hit someone who MAY be researching a branch of your tree: it happens on Genes Reunited all the time.

As the SIT approaches its 8,000th entry, I suspect it may soon hit a 'critical mass' where we start to get more and more matches.
I'll be recommending Berlin Bob for a knighthood once it reaches 10,000 entries! :)

cheers

Paul

Like Paul I am sure that as more people join SIT the more matches we will have - After all aren't we all supposed to be related not too many generations back?

Would it be possible to tell new members, as they join Rootschat, that it would be a positive advantage if they put their names on SIT. I am sure that if all rootschatters were on SIT, many more of us would discover connections.

I do agree with contacting each and every person,  even if their names are not in the precise

County tallying with yours. You may still have a connection.

It takes me some time to read all the mail, as I also check everyones name list.

Today looking at the replies on this thread alone, I see two names(not  among my Ancestors)

but which are also in two Branches of relations. (Unsworth and Quinton)

Now it becomes complicated! Do I contact them or not...(As they are not my rellies)

Perhaps the two ladies concerned will contact me .

Springbok

I am one of the ladies with Unsworth connections!! My husbands maternal grandmother was born an Unsworth in Cadishead in Lancs.
Maybe we have a common ancestor!

In spite what I said in my previous posting, I must admit that I have not contacted all the people with my surname interests. However when reaearching a particular branch or twig that is when I contact people. One of my new years resolutions is to put my research in order and catalogue my contacts!!

Hi

I have only just discovered th SIT area today and according to my profile I have nearly spent a day on this site.  For those of us struggling with technology it takes a while to catch up with everyone else.  This site is amazing, so much help when you need it, such diversity, it takes a little while to find your way around.  I admire the moderators, the time they must spend sorting out all our problems is awe inspiring.
