Immigration records?
« on: Thursday 06 January 11 18:25 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to any records of sailings to the UK in 1924ish, please? I can access outgoing sailings, but not incoming ones.

Louis Aloysius Byrne sailed from Liverpool to Sydney in late 1923 and I have 2 questions:

1. When did he return? (we think it would have been in 1924)
2. Was a small child called Teresa Quinlan on the same sailing and if so, does it show how old she was and who she was sailing with (possibly Louis but I'm sure he wouldn't have been looking after a child on his own!)

muchas gracias :)

Hi

I haven't found Louis returning yet, but there's this possibility for Teresa:

Arrival Date: 6th June 1929
Ship came from: Brisbane via ports
Port of Embarkation: Freemantle
Port of Landing: London
Miss T Quinlan
c/o Nat Bk of Aus Ldn
Travelling: 1st Class
Age: 8
Country of last permanent residence: Australia
Country of intended permanent future residence: England

She appears to be travelling on her own  :-\

The couple above are Mr & Mrs Pearson-Lyon, solicitor, c/o Agt Gen W A Ldn, landing Southampton; the couple below (next page) are Mr & Mrs Stevenson of Ayrshire, Secretary, also landing Southampton.

Thankyou - it's a possibility though Teresa actually went to live in Dublin with Louis' family - but I shall keep this one in mind.

I should have added the liner; it was the Orama of the Orient Steam Nav Co Ltd.

Well, she stood out on her own; no doubt she was well looked after in 1st class!!

If Louis went straight back to Ireland (I see he was a surgeon and at one time coroner in Dublin) then I wouldn't know where the passenger lists would be, if they still exist.

Hope something turns up.
