Hi,

We were wondering if anyone could do a 1901 look up for us.

We're interested in Clara Reed/Read, she was was born in Buckworth, Hunts in 1872 and was living in Union Workhouse, Huntingdon St John, Huntingdon in the 1881 census with her 2 sisters Naomi and Mercy.  (Ref RG11 1604 / 50 pg 32)

Family rumour says she lived all her life in the Workhouse but we're struggling to find a death for her,wWe guess she could have married but can't find a definate marriage record either..... There are 2 possibles in Huntingdon, one in March quarter 1897 and the other in Dec quarter 1904, Clara would have been 25 and 32 years old respectively.  In 1897 marriage she married William Henry Lyon and in the 1904 she married William James Bird.

At a guess a search for Clara Reed/Read/Lyon/Bird may find our Clara.

Thank you in anticipation

Love
Legs and Ian

Hi Legs,

What I did was search for a Clara born 1872 +/- 1 year born in Hunts. This was the only entry coming up with any of the surnames you gave me.

Just had a look at the workhouse and the only Reid/Read there is Stephen Read pauper single 57 ag lab Buckworth

hmmmm..........another spanner in the works.........

I'm really confused now.......

Mercy married Charles Hubbard at some point....can't find notes at the mo.....

Clara married Wm Hy Lyon at some point also....

Naomi last known in 1901 living with her mother Catherine, in Buckworth and Catherine's Grandson Harry, (supposedly Mercy's son......according to family tales - no other trace of Harry!)

There is definately a vague family story relating to the 3 sisters....one did apparently die in the  workhouse.......God knows which one....!!

Thanks again for your help......

Love

hello there, my grandma was mercy hubbard (nee reed) she had harry, george, horace, maude & may (twins) & rose who lived with clara, and my mum dorothy. both my gran & grandad (charles hubbard) are buried in alconbury church yard (no gravestones). grandad died after an accident with a horse and cart, and grandma aged 82 or 86 of gangarine. they also had other children who died, I think soon after being born. Naomi was in the union workhouse huntingdon aged 14 in 1881 as was my grandma mercy aged 12 and clara aged 9 . Naomi had a child forgotten name probably disabled, and also brought up aunt rose.

hope this new information for you.
