Hi absolom

Thank you for the grave details on George Weston, no I did not have them, I have his Medal Card, I also have his marriage certificate to Laura Coley if would like a copy, send me a PM with your e-mail details, the name Askin, Herskin,Erskin does go down from generation to generation, back to James Coley b 1842 his father was my great grandfather Samuel Coley b c 1812, I have not been able to establish who his parents were, on the census his birth ranges from 1810 to 1814, I have found 2 possibilities

Samuel Coley
Christened 24 Dec 1809 Cradley
Parents Thomas Coley and Elizabeth

Samuel Coley
Birth 1809
Christened 15 Nov 1819 Cradley

Hi Absolom

Yes that is my tree on there, Jan started it off and I entered the rest, I can't say for definite the Samuel's parents on this is the correct one, I know on the census that there is another Samuel that this could be, I have also looked at the children for Thomas and Elizabeth to see if I could pick up on any of there name's but no luck there, now if my Samuel had a son named Timothy I would go for the other one, but that would be to easy.

Oh the joys of Family History

Hi I have loads of books and records on Cradley, having researched the area for many years.  I had a look in the Cradley Burial Register, no Burials for a Samuel Coley who was born circa 1809 or 1819, so it looks like both of those Samuels probably survived.  The 1782 House and Field Survey, lists two Samuels and a John all living in Netherend Cradley, no others listed in Cradley at that time.  Also found a Burial for Timothy Coley 6.8.1832 aged 46.  In 1841 there is also a Wm Coley aged 30 and family living in Coley Gate, could connect to your Samuel.  However there were a number of Non Conformist Chapels in Cradley circa 1800 where some Baptism's took place, the records have been lost, which makes searching for Baptism's difficult, my line of Worton runs out in 1796, can't get back any further as the Records are not there.  HTH from Linell.
