Could sks please consider a lookup for me for one Thomas Greenough, tried JUL 1829 Lancashire, England, Sentenced to Transportation

Would love to know the details / I have tried to track down on Thomas Green, aka Greenall, Greenhough, Greenhalgh, Greenough, Greenhow, Greenow......you can see the prob I think...

Thomas Greenough age 19
Offence: Felony
When and where: Kirkdale 3rd August 1829 I  think that must be the date he appeared in court for sentencing.
Sentence: 7 years
How disposed of: can't read it but it looks like b@l 8 December 1829. I wonder if that's the date when the ship arrived?

Ship: York
Moored at: Portsmouth

Not sure about the b@l - maybe shorthand code for something - will try to think about that one.

All the teminology was on the record. I tried enlarging it but still couldn't read it.

I think it's where the ship was going. The others on the page are going to NSW. So now you need to find somewhere with b@l. It could read BDL or BSL.


Sorted it. It's VDL. Phew!!! I  had to read quite a number of pages until I found one that was clear enough to decifer.So the ship was going to Tasmania. Is that any help?

There are a few Greenough's listed on the Prison Register appearing at  Kirkdale Court and then being transported. I wonder if they are related?

What the heck does it mean? I can read the odd word or two but can't make sense of it. Does it say really bad singer?

He arrived VDL on the Mary 9 April 1830. Sentenced Lancaster 3 August 1839. 7 years.

I thought it said that but couldn't believe he got 7 years.

I wonder why there is a difference in ships? If he arrived in VDL on the Mary in April what happened to him when he arrived on the York in December? I suppose that the only way to find out is to research what happened at the time. Maybe they were held off shore on the Mary until accommodation was built.
