O'BRIEN family Gympie
« on: Tuesday 11 January 11 07:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Looking to contact any relatives researching the O'Brien family from Gympie. Hopeing to share info, photos, documents etc.

William O'Brien and Catherine had a son named James O'Brien who married Liddy (Latatia or Lydia) Ryan in Ballyporeen, Tipperary on the 22nd February 1838.

James and Lydia's son, William O'Brien (1838-1884), migrated to Australia and settled around the Gympie area of Queensland. William was married to Catherine Casey.

William also had other siblings who settled in Gympie, namely; Thomas O'Brien (1841-1910) who married Johanna Flynn, Catherine O'Brien (1844-1920) who married Andrew Barrett, Bridget O'Brien (1846-1929) who married Patrick Malynn, Mary O'Brien (1851-1918) who married John Walsh, Timothy O'Brien (1856-1920) who married Margaret O'Brien, and James O'Brien (1861-1946) who was unmarried.

Kind Regards  :)

Anthony

Researching the family of my grandson’s mother I discovered he is a descendant of Thomas O'Brien his 5xG Grandfather b. 14 Aug 1841 Ballyporeen or Clogheen, Tipperary, Ireland.  D. 26 Sep 1910 Gympie, Queensland, Australia and Johanna O’Brien (Flynn)  5xG Grandmother b. 1843 Mitchelstown, Cork, Ireland.  D. 6 Dec 1920 Gympie, Queensland, Australia.
His grandmother (my wife) has ancestors buried in the Gympie cemetery so our grandson now finds himself with ancestors on his father's and mother's side buried there.  Living in Gympie, he has quite a connection to the city.
