Where did Elizabeth go

Elizabeth Broadhurst or Park was imprisoned in Selkirk in 1870 when she gives her age as 39, birth place as Edinburgh and says she has spent most of her life in England.

The 1871 census shows her with her brother James Park in Galashiels aged 39 again born in Edinburgh.

I cannot find marriage for a Parks and a Broadhurst in either Scotland or England nor can I find Elizabeth in 1881 or any census after. I can't find a death in England or Scotland for her either.

Can anyone help find Elizabeth please.

Hi Carolyn,
I haven't found her in the censuses you are looking for but she was christened 7 July 1831, Innerleithen, Peeblesshire. Her father was William. I noted from an earlier census that her siblings of about the same age were born there. I found this using the freesearch on scotlandspeople.

So she was presumably born as Elizabeth Park but appears as Elizabeth P (?Park) Broadhurst in 1871

Have you viewed the 1871 image on Scotlands People to determine her marital status (ie) widow/married/spinster etc

I only have access to the transcriptions which do not show that info

On the 1871 census she is described as married, and her name is Elizabeth P Broadhurst ( I assume the P is for Park) hence the search for a Broadhurst/Park marriage.

Not sure how close Innerleithen is to Edinburgh where she says she was born.

Innerleithen is about 29 miles from Edinburgh.
If the other siblings, older and younger than her were born Innerleithen I find it unlikely that she was born in Edinburgh. perhaps if she left home when young she may not have known/remembered where she was born. Innerleithen fits in with their occupations as Innerleithen and Galashiels were part of the growth of the textile industry in the region around the River Tweed. When the Parks were there they would be part of that growth. As agriculture work declined in the area the textile industry provided the work for the locals.
