Hi Megan

The death registrations in BC are quite informative.  The forms and questions changed every few years but from some you can find out how long the deceased lived in the country/province/municipality and how long the deceased worked in an occupation and often the name of the last employer.  

Usually the "errors" are due to erroneous information supplied by the informant; however, they can be transcription errors.  I have one like that....surname clearly says "Doling" on the original death certificate but transcribed as "Honey" on the pilot site.

Good leads to follow up - interesting that William doesn't appear to be buried with Ruby - but that may be the Catholic/ Protestant thing - maybe he's in the Catholic section.

Interesting. Would love to see a full transcript - maybe it gives where they married (or at least the ages they were when they married).

The death registration has a section with info on disposition and gives date of cremation and/or burial.  It does not contain any information about date of marriage or age at marriage...only marital status and name of spouse.

On the Aoragni passenger list for Ruby's return journey from Australia on August 19, 1926, she gives her destination in Canada as c/o White Lunch at 124 Hastings Street.

It seems kind of odd that they didn't return together....she in August and he in December.

There is a death registration for a David Chester, b. July 15, 1856 London, England, d. April 2, 1922, South Vancouver, BC; married but no spouse's name listed; father is William Chester.

Possibly this is Ruby's father's death.

Just found Louise Chester, age 67, widow, on the same ship as Ruby returning from Australia in August 1926.  She lists the same destination (White Lunch, Hastings St.) as Ruby does.  Says she was previously in Canada from 1905-1923.

I presume this is Ruby's mother.

Have you checked Australian records for a marriage between Ruby and William there?

Just found a death registration for a Louisa Emma Chester, b. May 18, 1859, England, d. September 4, 1936, Vancouver, BC; widow but no spouse named; father John Clomp.

This appears to be Ruby's mother's death.

I suspect that Ruby and William were married in either California or Australia.  Unfortunately, the California marriage records for the 1920s are not online.
