heyward and kgarrard,
I forgot about the birth certificate for marie, and kgarrard yes I have got the marriage certificate it states that elizabeth was a spinster and she was born on guernsey inb 1854 I have tried getting a birth cetificete from guernsey but they have no record of the name and her fathers name was john geoghegan this is on the marriage certificate he is down as a labourer,
heyward I will have to send for a birth certificate for marie.

Have you considered that father John might have been in the Forces?
Possibly Royal Artillery, based at Fort George?

It might also be a good idea to contact the Channel Islands Family History Society.
I did that for part of my family, who were briefly in Jersey.
You will have to pay for the research, but it might be worthwhile?

It doesn't seem as though this is going to straightforward from our searches to date so it would be essential to get that birth certificate. There may by no help there at all but you need to do it just in case.
I've done more searching today with no results.

I did suggest that dad may have been in the army on the other thread and if that is so they may have returned to Ireland. I can't see anything in England. There is a John with a family in Devon (think he was a Sgt Major) but there is no Elizabeth and his children are slightly younger than her.

KGarrard -if you are searching - I think a witness to the marriage was a Margaret Geogheghan - hope that's right.
