The spelling of Irish names varies all the time for a variety of reasons, and there are many of these names across Ireland. Perhaps you could let us have the specific information you have on your Irish relations, so that we can help you.

Ideally we need to know the names you have, their religion, dates of birth/marriage/death and the townland/parish you know/think they came from.

Karen- is there an Irish connection further back? From your last post it looks like Michael was born in Leeds, England and was in England in 1901 and 1911?
If you are trying to find details of Michael's parents this thread you'll need to check English records- is Michael's father's name and occupation listed on his marriage certificate? have you found him in earlier census records (hopefully as a child with his family), etc.

P.S. typing messages all in capitals is considered shouting and I'm sure you didn't mean to do that  :)

Just had a quick look for Michael in 1881 census which is online (free) on www.familysearch.org. Searching for Michael Shearen born 1866 +/- 5 years England brings up on 2 entries-
1) Michael Shearan, age 13, born Leeds York England, scholar at "Shibden Industrial School", Southowram, York (born c1868)
2) Michael Sheerin, age 17, born Manchester

Think the 13 year old Michael in 1881 census might be the correct one so if he could be found in 1871 census his parents' details might help. Is there a link to Ireland anywhere yet?

The school should have a record of his parentage.  I've pasted the website page below which gives the information. Maybe somebody who goes to Kew on a regular basis could help.
