Death Certificate - Gorey Registration District - 1873
« on: Tuesday 25 January 11 14:43 GMT (UK) »
Excuse me for being totally thick  :o but how do I order a death certificate for someone who died in 1873?

I have looked at the groireland website and that doesn't seem to allow me to order a certificate for 1873 - so where do I go?  Can I do it on-line?

I have the following information:

Name
Registration District = Gorey
Registration quarter = January-March 1873
Birth Year = 1797
Film Number = 101589
Volume Number = 2
Page Number = 755
Digital Fold number = 4200221
Image number = 00022

I've never had to order an Irish certificate (I live in England) so any help would be gratefully received.

It's not your fault- the GRO form is really designed for someone ordering their own birth certificate. The following details from the civil index are what you need-
Name
Registration District = Gorey
Registration quarter = January-March 1873
Age
Volume Number = 2
Page Number = 755

The other index details are for LDS only.

See here for ordering certificates-

Many thanks Aghadowey - and I had read that post, but was still confused (not difficult in my case  ::)).  However, the problem seems to be when I try to order on-line there is nowhere to indicate the Registration District (Gorey) - the two boxes offered are "Place of Death" (Name of Street, Hospital, Home, Town etc) and "Former Residence of Deceased" (Name of Street, Hospital etc) and I don't know the answer to either; plus you have to enter the date of death from a pull-down menu for day 1-31, month January etc.,  and year but that only starts in 1924.

So does this mean that I am unable to order the certificate on-line?  If that is so, then where do I order it from?

Some certs can be ordered online on a website run by the HSE (Health Service Executive), but only certain dates are available.

All historic research certs can be ordered from the GRO in Roscommon by post, using the references mentioned above. They do do not have an online ordering facility, at the moment.

See the first post in the topic linked above by aghadowey for details on how to order a cert by post.

BumbleB, I live in Australia, and recently ordered some certs for Wexford. I used the reference number, year, district, name, and event (BDM) from the familysearch site.
I faxed it to the GRO at Roscommon, including my credit card details, asking for family history photocopies (as suggested by someone at Rootschat!!).
It didn't cost much, and they came to me in post within the fortnight.
Katharine.

Hi Dave:  well, I've never had to order anything that didn't originate in Yorkshire  :o  I had to do another one (again for my friend in South Africa) of an overseas death.  We're never too old to learn - and I know I can give you a few years  ;D ;D

And luckily for you, the bastardy records for Warley are lost forever, or you might have had to look for another Appleyard for me   ;D ;D ;D ;D  That'll teach you!!!!
