« on: Tuesday 25 January 11 23:52 GMT (UK) »
Help Please: Looking for info on a Patrick Murray DOB 1908-1909, his father was a James Murray, Plumber, NOt sure if born in Ireland or not, married in Catholic Church 26/12/1929 to an Ivy Beatrice Lanceley (my nan), in Bermondsey, London.
I Patrick's father is listed as James Murray (Deceased), Plumber, Ivy's father is listed as William Lanceley, Oil and Colour Mixer.  They were both listed as living at 46 Beatrice Road, Bermonsey at time of marriage
Witnesses are W. Lanceley and an E. Murray (this could either be Jame's wife or sister/brother), I am not able to confirm.

Any info would be agre :-)

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

If he was born 1908 he will either be on the English or Irish 1911 census

You can first check freebmd for a birth  www.freebmd.org.uk

The Irish 1911 is free of charge at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search

The English 1911 is only available on a strictly pay per view basis but there is a free index  http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

English 1911 lookups are not allowed because of copyright restrictions so you will have to buy credits to look at any transcriptions

You may find the following helpful when searching the English 1911

USING THE FREE 1911 INDEX TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT HOUSEHOLD

http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx

Once you find a possible match - make a note of the county and district in which the person was living

Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else

In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district

In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index

Click SEARCH

You will have to buy credits to view the full entry - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same name in the same household

Many thanks for that.  Have tried FreeBMD's but not knowing if he did come from Ireland or born in the UK, found it hard going, and such a common surname also.  I will keep trying, your info on the 1911 Census has returned 33 entries, once again, many thanks for this

An update on this post.

The E. Murray, stands for Edward Murray.

However I do not appear to be very much further ahead in my search for Patrick James Murray, who was a Restaurant Waiter at time of marriage.

If anyone is able to help that would be great.

Many thanks

Just to tie up so of the peripheral info - on the 1931 electoral roll, living at 46 Beatrice Road are Ivy and Patrick Murray, but also William, Sarah Ann and Francis William Lanceley, and James Albert and James Edward Walton, so it looks as if the newly weds were living with Ivy's parents.

Back on the trail again and would dearly love to find out more info, as my dad is now 85 years old.  I have found a couple of entries for immigration, the DOB  is within the range and the occupation is correct, but have found nothing more concrate, any help would be much appreciated.

Not certain what details you are after, so sorry if you already have this but if you look at the electoral rolls for Ivy Beatrice Murray, you see that Patrick is with her in 1932 (at Beatrice Road) but not with her in 1938 so it looks as if they split/he died in those intervening years.

Edited to add: Patrick Murray is not with her in Beatrice Road from 1935 onwards, so that narrows the time frame down further.

This may be entirely false and leading you up the garden path.....

There is a Patrick J Murray on the 1939 register at 128 Clitterhouse Road, Hendon.  Birth date is 18 Feb 1908, profession is Restaurant Waiter.

Using this address as a baseline, on the 1936 Electoral Roll for 100 Clitterhouse Road, there is a Patrick James Murray living with a Dorothy Rose Murray

A few years later in the Dec qtr 1945, a Patrick J Murray marries Dorothy R Hickes.

Thank you for this information, any lead is better than nothing, I had checked the electoral rolls for the family and seen than Patrick J Murray was listed 1930, 1931, and 1932 but nothing after this, although in 1955, 1958 and 1959 a Cyril S. Murray appears but no-one in the family is able to remember or know who this is?
