*COMPLETED* Birth Edgar or Edward NOBLE
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 22:53 GMT (UK) »
Could someone kindly look up the parish records of Warboys  for a birth/christening of Edgar or Edward Noble born around 1864. His birth is not in the GRO index (though his marriage and death are). In the 1871 Census he is called Edward Noble but in subsequent censuses and on his marriage and death certificates he is Edgar Noble. His parents are John Noble and Ruth (nee Cave Beck).

Thanks

Mark

There is a birth in 1864 which is just listed as Male Noble

Jun 1864 St Ives 3b/281
Male Noble

This could be the one you are looking for. Warboys is covered by St.Ives.

Sorry, I didn't get as far as checking the deaths. It is late on a Saturday night after all.

Perhaps I should have been a little more explicit. I have checked the FreeBMD for this birth. I have also had the GRO themselves search for it to no avail. Parish records seem to me to be the only avenue left.

This case is interesting since I have managed to get the birth records of all but two of his siblings (he has seven siblings as far as I know). The two that I can't find were born in Warboys at around 1862 (Ruth) and 1866 (Sarah). Of the remaining five siblings, four were born in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire  and one in 1869 in Warboys. Does anyone know if there has been some lost records from the St Ives registration district?

Hi

Failure to register a birth only became a fineable offence in 1874/75 so prior to then - many births went unregistered

In some families - it is not unusual to find some births were registered and others were not.  It was all down to the families finances at that time as it cost 2 or 3 old pence to register a birth - a sum that could feed a family in those days

Have you checked at St Ives register office? It's not unknown for entries to be missed when the transcription was made from the local register to be sent to the GRO
