McGarry family 1800-1850 Moydow, Ardaugh
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 23:36 GMT (UK) »
A number of McGarrys emigrated to Canada and US from Longford. Patrick and his cousin Patrick, Michael, Bernard, Thomas among others. Have not been able to find any evidence of births, marriages, etc from there. Said to have been from Moydow, Ardaugh. Any help appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat. Any idea of dates? it really depends on whether you are looking for events before or after the start of civil registration as to where you might find information

Think they left about 1820. Some maybe after 1840. Patrick born about 1818 in Moydow? Some say Dunloy, Antrim. Not sure. His father, Patrick said to have been born 1778 in Moydow, Longford.

Civil registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages started in 1864 (from 1845 for non-Catholic marriages) so it looks as though you are going to be searching for church records. Armoy, Co. Antrim and Co. Longford are quite a long distance apart which would concern me.

Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start?.
