Simpson of Kelso
« on: Sunday 30 January 11 13:31 GMT (UK) »
Hello there,
I hope some kind sole can help me please.

Ebenezer Simpson b. 1794 ish

My 4x gt grandfather was a Baker in Kelso in the 1800's and lived at 58 Horsemarket street.  In 1841 he lived in Bridge Street and then in 1851 he lived in Backway then the next census records have him at Horsemarket.

I have his marraige and death records but cannot find his birth record at all.

His father was William Simpson and his mother was Mary Rosinson (Robson, Robertson?).

I was wondering if some kind person could get me pictures of these residences and also give me some clue as to where to look next for his birth.  I have looken on SP and IGI etc. but have drawn a blank.  I have managed however to get some information on his father.

Thank you

Jac

Hi Jac

There looks to be at least three possible siblings to Ebenezer. IGI show three entries to the same parents, William and Mary, all in Kelso:

John SIMSON Birth: 06 Dec. 1786 - a submitted entry but I think it shows on SP
Anna SIMSON Christening on 5 April 1789
Helen SIMSON Christening on 27 Feb. 1791

Not all Parish Register entries have survived over time unfortunately. Banns/marriage for parents show in Kelso on 16 Dec. 1785

Thank you both for this information.  I had the death of Ebenezer and his wife Helen but not the deaths of their children.  I will need to look further into the death of John and his wife.  He may be the John who is on the submitted record.

I have managed to get a lot of information from SP but it is costing me a fortune.

Thank you again for your help

Possible migration to St Louis, Missouri perhaps?

Thanks again for your help.  I have managed to find one of the deaths in St Louis USA.  I have not found the other one yet but here's hoping.

Hi Jac,

I was just reading your initial post and saw you were also looking for photographs. Have you seen this website: http://www.rootschat.com/links/0dwk/ You can search the census for free and then click the link to both modern and historical maps, this means you can see the Simpson residence in Google street view. I know it’s not as good as a photograph but a t least it’s something.

Emma

Thanks you so much for this link.  It is very interesting and I look forward to seeing more as my search goes on.

I will one day go there with any luck.

Thanks again
