Queensgate Cemetery Records

Finding No:- CM5   1919-1997   44 items   Status:- OPEN

Contains registers of burials 1919-1997, registers of burials in war graves indexed including plan 1940-1947, register of interments garden of rest c.1981-1997, register of burials of stillborn children 1965-1974, curator's records of burials and fees 1919-1966, register of purchased graves 1992-1997, registers of grants of graves 1919-1967, index to grave ledger 1919-1984, purchase of exclusive rights of burial nd., certificates for disposal of stillborn children 1961-1969.          Cemeteries, Maps & Second World War.

The land for Queensgate Cemetery was acquired by the Beverley Corporation in 1905. A part of the Cemetery was also used for burials from the East Riding Asylum in Walkington from 1911. A further part of the Cemetery opened in 1919 when it was required for burials from St Mary's parish. Responsibility for the cemetery was transferred to the East Yorkshire Borough of Beverley Council in 1974 and then to East Riding of Yorkshire Council in 1996.
Records have been transferred by East Yorkshire Borough of Beverley Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council and consist of the following amalgamated accessions or part accessions: 1295, 1480, 4030, 4341

ST JOHN'S CEMETERY RECORDS

Contains registers of burials 1861-1991, registers of public graves 1861-1955, registers of private graves 1863-1961, minutes of joint committee of St. John's Burial Board 1895-1974, burial and fees books 1876-1897, register of fees 1903-1972, grants of rights of burial (grave deeds) 1900-1965, financial statements 1902-1951, receipts and payments accounts 1872-1974, orders for payments 1900-1971.  Cemeteries and Burial Boards.

A joint Burial Board for the parishes of St Martin and St John was established in 1859[?]. A Joint Committee of St John's Cemetery was established in 1895. St John's Cemetery was the burial ground for the townships of Woodmansey with Beverley Parks, Thearne and Molescroft, in the parish of St Martin.
Records have been transferred by East Yorkshire Borough of Beverley Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council and consist of the following amalgamated accessions or part accessions: 1480, 4174
