British Subject born in France
« on: Monday 31 January 11 13:48 GMT (UK) »
I am wondering if there were separate recordings of births in France if one was a British Subject?
The birth record I am trying to find is a Augustus Alfred Slade said to of been born in Toulouse, France  abt 1837 (this info is from a census record 1870's in London) I have contaced Toulouse Archives and they tell me no such person...
Can anyone advise me.

Thanks,

Fran ???

Consular birth indexes only start in 1849, unfortunately, although there are some earlier records for military births.

If the family were Church of England there might be a baptism either at a British Chapel in France (not necessarily in Toulouse) or back in the UK later on (whenever the family came back).
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
