Hi Bruce

If his wife Charlotte had given the information she may not have wanted her mentioned???

Hi Bruce

On Ancesrty24 I can only find one death notice for

Jane Poole b 1819 Manchester England
DOD 27 Feb 1871, Farmers Wife at Farm 108 East London District
No Children
Death Notice signed by Thomas Poole

It was filed on the 17 March 1871

If she did leave him, she may have had to give all rights to her children???

I have a transcript of her DN and her age is about right, born circa 1819 and Thomas born circa 1820,But why would the informant Thomas if he is still married to her at this stage not include the children or had they separated were still married but not on the best of terms.
In Thomas's will he leaves his farm No 108 in the King Williams Town district to one of his son's and Jane dies at Farm No 108 East London district whose boundary is shared by King Williams Town, too much of a coincidence I think maybe she is the elusive Jane

I wonder if he had a previous wife too Jane, and she could be the mother of the children, if Jane died at Thomas's house they may not have been separated

Well if the marriage to Jane is the right one in 1862, she can't be the mother of the children, I think you need to look for a earlier marriage and see what that brings

They could have been seperated at the time as he also had a house in King Williams Town which he later bequeathed to his 2nd wife Charlotte Ann
