Just to add to this. Thomas Child - the witness of the will, may have been related to son William - his wife being Amelia Child.

Secondly, I have some info on the Sarah Squelch and her upline (received many years ago from a sixth cousin whose name I would have to dig out, but happy to share if it would be of any help). Anything more I can help with regarding William Knight's descendants via William and his wife Amelia, I would be happy to share if you would like to share your details of Mary Knight.

Mike

Hi

Abstracts not transcripts of wills proved at The Archdeaconry Court of Surrey and at the Commissary Court can be viewed at British Origins.

http://www.britishorigins.com/help/aboutNWI-surrwills.aspx

West Surrey Family History Society microfiche publications of abstracts of early wills1480-1821 proved in the Archdeaconry and Commissary Courts

http://www.wsfhs.org/MicroFicheMW.htm

and in book form indexes to Surrey courts

http://www.wsfhs.org/RecordSeries.htm

All these details and other information on Surrey wills such as the Surrey Plus Wills which is a free online index with some transcripts available are given in the guide to Surrey wills at the top of the Rootschat Surrey boards.

Hello harpmj

I'm very grateful for that advice about the will. Thank you. It proves that my Mary Street nee Knight's father was certainly William Knight of Cranleigh, whose wife was Sarah Squelch of Dunsfold. Yes, I'd be very pleased to receive any information about Sarah's line. I was assuming that she was of the Quelch line, since I haven't found other Squelches and there are a lot of Quelches in the area.

I have just read all the posts about Mary Knight and Richard street as Mary is my 5th cousin.I can now remove Richard form the marriage to Mary but I now have to start the search all over again.
