Daughter Lydia's marriage announcement in the South Australian Advertiser on 3rd March 1880 stated that she was the 7th daughter of Mr William GURR of Saddleworth.

In the list of daughters I've found, she was the sixth. So there must be another daughter somewhere. I'll keep looking.

According to the notice in the paper, Elizabeth GURR was indeed the fifth daughter, slotting in between Emily and Mary Ann.

Hi Trish,

Thanks for replying.

Where did you find 'Joseph' Gurr came to SA on the Antilla? Both the passenger record and the news paper of the day simply refer to one 'Mr Gurr'

I have always assumed that it was him but haven't been able to confirm it.

Hi bj,
I just entered surname Gurr on the site below.
Joseph does have a question mark there though.
There are 5 Gurr entries and Ellen and Mary Roberts listed

Hi Trish,

Please don't think I have deserted you. I'm still digesting the wealth of information that you have provided; and I have yet to read fully your wonderful story of the Old Bible Challenge.

I wasn't able to read the newspaper clipping unfortunately. Is there a link to it somewhere?

I haven't found a marriage for Matilda Salina Gurr yet. There don't appear to be any children born to her in SA and I haven't found a death record.

Jane (Jean) Ann married twice. First husband was James Black who died in 1879 and her second husband was Charles Henry Box who she married in 1882.

This sure is a work in progress .....
