"Shenley" in St Anthony's Avenue, Eastbourne, in 1946
« on: Sunday 06 February 11 10:34 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Everyone,
Thanks to another Rootschatter I've recently discovered that my great-grandmother remarried, and have sent away for her 1946 death certificate, having the new knowledge of her second married name at her death.  The location of her decease is given there as "Shenley", St Anthony's Avenue, Eastbourne.
Has anyone with local knowledge ever heard of a house with this name in this area, or indeed whether it exists today.  Might it have been a nursing home of some kind?
Very best wishes, keith

Did a 'google' map.  St. Anthony's Avenue, Eastbourne is still there, but Shenley doesn't come up.

Hi

Shenley is 24 St. Anthony's Anthony, it looks like the house was divided into two flats. If you can find a map of Eastbourne, St. Anthony's Avenue is a continuation of Seaside going towards Pevensey Bay Road, 24 is on the right hand side, looks like it could be the 3rd property after the turning to Wallis Avenue and yes it should still be there.
