What if it's not a "proper" sleeve, but the sleeve of something like a cape or open jacket?  I don't know what it would be called...

Well I can add this about the locket - it is gold and had the initials of the first wife (sister of second wife) and husband on it GD/PC all intertwined - the hanging 'equipment' is twin gold chains with jade stones around it. I can't see any gold marks - possibly behind the photos and i didn't look that hard!!    It is gold and possibly reasonably valuable I'd guess.
My guess is that is was 'bespoke' so I don't know if that tells you anything about whether or not it would have pictures in it before it was handed over to the person ordering it.  Herewith a photo.   -   Just wish there was more of the girl/boy to look at!!

Hi

I need my first coffee but I've been looking at this and  wondering about that sleeve. I think that part of it might be the curve of a chair - but not enough definition to be really sure. The far sleeve doesn't appear to have as much of a puff. I've marked in red where I think the sleeve might end - is there anything there wiggy - a line or change in tone that might give a clue?

Also, I had/have natural curly hair and, when it was pulled back,  it did have a similar effect with ringlets falling down my back

I'll now go get a cup of coffee  ;D

Hi JL,   :)

See what you mean, but I think it is damage to the photo.  I really think it shouldn't be there - hard to tell though isn't it.  I've enlarged it greatly and can't see a chair myself - but then . . . . .
Just enlarged hugely again  -  It really looks as if the line of the 'sleeve' has been broken by the damage - that's my take on it!  Unless she is looking over the curve of a chair - that may be possible I suppose - but I think the curve is all one thing.
Be interested to see what you think after the coffee!!

I can't see the other sleeve either but thought it might be behind her hair.  I also think it is her own hair hanging out!  What age do you think?

Sylvia - maybe a ribbon - but my first thought was some of her hair  - what do you think about that?   :-\

Hi Wiggy......I have two versions so you can choose which one.

You did say you did not want much more colour so I have been conservative.

Carolyn  :)

PS........I have reposted Wiggy as I have made some adjustments.

The photos I am looking at are on page 84 and 85 of Family Photos and how to date them -  Jayne Shrimpton.

Thanks very much Carolyn   :)  Much appreciated.  Now that is interesting - I didn't pick up that change in colour as a different colour - I thought it was just the light catching her frill!    It is very interesting to see photos as others see them.

Hi Again

I think Carolyn has noticed the sleeve variation as well -it comes out in her restores.

This is what i meant, Wiggy - the red is the chair and the green is the sleeve  :)

I think the little bundle is a topknot of hair - like a tiny bun!
