Apologies for reopening a very old thread, but I recently noticed that Mary Sibthorpe Flaherty was one of the witnesses on the marriage record for my great grandparents Frederick Nutt-Smith and Emma Ann Rhodes, who married at St Paul's, Winchmore Hill, Middlesex on 27th July 1889. I'm not aware of Mary's relationship to my great grandparents, so I was wondering whether their names crop up in any of your research e.g. were they witnesses at Mary's 1890 marriage to William Edwards?
Other witnesses on Frederick and Emma's marriage certificate are F. W. Laycock & Elizabeth Laycock (Emma's uncle and aunt) and Henry George King (who I know nothing about). The vicar was A. C. A. Drought.
I also noticed that Mary was born in Dublin about 1865, according to a family tree on Ancestry, but I can't check that as I don't have a subscription at present. However, the Irish connection is intriguing because I recently found that Frederick Nutt-Smith was not who I thought he was - it turns out that he was adopted whilst still an infant and his real name was Harry Maturin, the illegitimate son of Charles Maturin (1806-87), a Northern Irish landowner. I'm currently investigating the new Maturin link, but if you can shed any light on Mary Sibthorpe Flaherty's background then that would be wonderful.
Thanks,
Steve
