Bridget Fitzpatrick nee Lawlor
« on: Friday 11 February 11 09:40 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Just wondering if there is any one who can help me, l am looking for any information on Bridget  Lawlor who married ? Fitzpatrick, they had a daughter Maria not sure if there are any more children, Maria came to Australia not known when she was a Servant, she met and married a Gold digger named Michael O"neil in 1855 in Ballarat, they had 6 children. Maria was born in Kings County, and not sure what year as there is a bit of a discreppency about her age, as l have her death certificate being age 66 in1895 & a marriage certificate being age 18 in 1855 , l don't know anything us about my family ancestors, but l'm hoping someone might have some information on this family for me.

Thanks
Sue

Hi Sue,

On Maria’s marriage certificate she will have stated whereabouts in Kings County she came from, (most likely the Parish), the full names of both of her parents and their occupations.

As you say Maria Fitzpatrick married Michael O’Neil in 1855, Reg#2258.

You are able to download and purchase for A$17.50 uncertified images of Victorian certificates online:
Link:  https://online.justice.vic.gov.au/bdm/index-search?action=purchaseImage

Maria O’Neil died 22 November 1895 at Panmure, age 66.  Reg#14701.
Her parents were listed as Father Unknown Fitzpatrick and Mother Unknown Lawlor.
(Death certificate information is only as good as the knowledge of the informant and thus discrepenciencies in age and information occur.)

Maria has an on line digitised Will at:
Link:  http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/indexes/index_search.asp?searchid=54

Maria's and Michael’s children were:

Thomas O’Neil born 1856, Ballarat, Reg#12443
Thomas O’Neil died 1860, Ballarat, age 3.  Reg2401

Elizabeth O’Neil born 1860, Camperdown, Reg#3471
Elizabeth O’Neil married 1880, Michael Grace.  Reg#1943
Elizabeth Grace (nee O’Neil) died 1885, Panmure, age 26.  Reg#6369

Bernard O’Neil born 1862, Camperdown, Reg#13128
Bernard O’Neil died 1928, District of Narrandera, NSW.  Reg#13929
In Maria’s Will Bernard is recorded as living in Darlington Point, NSW.

Michael Henry O’Neil born 1864, Allansford, Reg#12574
Michael Henry O’Neil died 1896, Warrnambool, age 35.  Reg#11756

Ellen O’Neil born 1868, Panmure, Reg#18542
Ellen O’Neil died 1873, Panmure, age 5.  Reg#7863

Mary O’Neil born 1871, Panmure, Reg#4540
In Maria’s Will Mary is living somewhere in Gippsland, Victoria.

In February 1852, there was a 21 year old unassisted passenger Maria Fitzpatrick on board the “Charlotte Jane” - Fiche 001, page 5.

Also lots of valuable information on the Irish Resources Board, especially Introduction to Irish records.

Cheers,

Janet.

Hi Janet
Thanks so much for the information, l did down load the marriage certificate but l can't read her father's name and l can only make out her mother's first name as Bridget, on the marriage certificate it only shows kings county for Maria & Tipperary for Michael. Do you know if Maria had any brothers or sister's and if her family came out to Australia as well.

Thanks again it is much appreciated

Sue

Hi Sue,

Who were the witnesses on the marriage certificate please?

There was a Patrick Fitzpatrick and a James Fitzpatrick on the "Charlotte Jane" with Maria, but they were listed on separate pages giving the impression that they were not travelling together.

Janet.

Hi Sue,

If you are able to please post the portion of the marriage certificate that you cannot read on to the Deciphering and Recognition and Help Board.

Cheers,

Janet.

Hi Sue,

Were you able to read who the witnesses were on the marriage certificate?

I rather wish you had not asked me that, I think that I would probably cause you to have a "breakdown" if I tried to explain it, but here goes.  On the help page there are instructions.

Do you have the image saved.

If so, go up to the Deciphering and Recognition and Help Board
Start a new topic, you will see the Message Box, write your message, underneath you will see "Attach a photograph or image", Click on Browse, Click on your image so that something like this (C:\Documents,etc,etc,) appears in the Attach: ........................... Browse button and then click on post.

Hopefully this will work.  Good luck.  Will check back in a couple of hours to see how it goes.

Janet.
