Hardress Waller Eyre Evans
He was my great grandfather. Elystan often seemed to falsify his information, dates, names - which makes historic research difficult and interesting. His military record lists tatoos including "Rough Rider" and "Sylvia & Daisy".
Original enlistment records: claims born in Bedford, England 1886 (1890 more likely or possibly in India), Lived in Allahabad, India with mother, and wife Daisy Maude nee Bird. Voluntary service with Light Horse (India) for 12 years.
1914 traveled to Australia in to enlist in Australian Imperial Forces 16-12-1915,as veterinary assistant 9th light Horse 30th reinforcement (sent to Egypt).
Discharged overseas 1917 after serving 147 days.
Was not ideal man or husband - notorious for interfering with young women - eventually abandoned wife Daisy and 2 children, who had emigrated to Aust around 1921?
Son - John Eyre D'arcy Evans - born India?
Daughter - Thora Sylvia D'Arcy Evans - Born 1921, Fremantle, WA
Wife Daisy Maude filed for divorce 1930 - then?
My grandmother was Thora Sylvia, her daughter, who grew up in Perth and went to Presbyterian Ladies College - married my grandfather Gwyn Roy Judd Hitchin m.1936, who was a magistrate at the Perth Childrens' Court. They div. 1938. He died in 1976.
After a long, strangely similar lifestyle to her father's, Thora sylvia d'arcy Hapgood (nee Evans) died 14 Nov 2009 in Rockingham, WA - without acknowledging her surviving original family and grandchildren who live nearby.
1925 onwards? Elystan John D'Arcy Evans disappeared to the Eastern States and had other relationships and children - one family in NSW/VIC, one in QLD. I have no personal knowledge of his fate and death, although it is said to be 1959.
My father regained and kept in good contact with his eastern half-aunts/cousins, and half-brother in the USA. He died 1994.
