Many thanks again for all your speedy replies. I am beginning to piece it together.

The James Howarth marriage ST. Mary's  1820 is in Bury Town center and not ST. Mary's Radcliffe.
Witness's John Cuncliffe & Thoma Crompton if it helps.

Thanks for your quick replies. I am afraid there is nothing new here.
I have John's death cert and he was 33, so born in 1823.
I have his marriage cert to Elizabeth Walker in 1852 too.
There is a John Walsh Howarth baptised in Radcliffe in 1840. If this was him, he would have been 17. Parents are Thomas Howarth and Ann Walch.
No sign of him in 1841 and 1851 census.
No sign of his probate either, so I'm not sure where the money came from.
The Walkers were farmers, but not particularly wealthy.
Any cotton mills of Radcliffe experts out there?

'Walker'was a common name in the cotton industry in Radcliffe . The Walker Allen Company was a bleaching works ( I believe Walker was a christian name in this example)and the Walkers Foundry  made and sold cotton manufacturing machinery all over the world. All the surnames you mention are very common today in Radcliffe.

Monk- pre 1783 Anglezarke / Rivington
Jolly-Chorley, Wigan, Heapey, Heath Charnock, Rivington, Anglezarke, Prestwich
Ebrey- Oswestry, Wrexham, Pendleton, Childs Ercall
Murray- Shropshire/Cheshire
Harrison- Stoke/Burslem

James Walch Howarth is my Great Grandfather .He married Ada Wild and they had a child named Elizabeth Walker Howarth . Ada and James divorced when  Elizabeth was about 4 years old . Elizabeth  married my grandfather George Robert Hutchinson Nicholson . James Walch Howarth married again to a lady named Amelia Keller in January 1886 , James died that same year in September. I have further details should anyone require same.
