Reap, Michael - born 1820 - Ballycastle, Mayo
« on: Wednesday 16 February 11 20:32 GMT (UK) »
Hello all:
I am looking for any info on the Reap family.
Catherine (1810 IRE) and her brother Michael (1820 Ballycastle, Mayo, IRE).
Catherine is my Great Great Grandmother.
Parents and siblings are not known.

Catherine married Terence Maloney (1804 IRE) - possibly in US.

First child Thomas was (born 1840) in Canojarie, NY.
They then moved to Pittston, PA by 1850 where all future children were born.

Thomas Maloney (1840 in NY) married Bridget Neville (1846 in PA).
Her father was Patrick Neville (abt 1805 IRE)
He mother was Honora Reardon (abt 1815 IRE).

Her brother Michael Reap (1820) born Ballycastle, Mayo per obit,
First married Honora Connor (1827 Mayo) in Ireland. They had 2 children.
After her death he married Mary Bolin/Bolen/Bowlin and they had 9 children.

He was one of the early settlers of this area of PA. became a prominent merchant, bank President and businessman and is noted in the History of Luzerne county.

I am happy to provide source documentation to anyone researching these families from their time in the US.
Thank you in advance for any leads you can provide!

I am researching a "Nellie" Reap/Reape/Ralph who married Michael Monnelly/Munnelly circa 1840 in the Belmullet area.  They had children born between 1845 and 1859.  One of them was my great-great-grandmother, Mary Munley born 1845 or 1847.  She married a Gaughan and later immigrated to Scranton area, Pennsylvania.  There were other Reape families in the area as well.

Any connection?

I should clarify:  One of their children MIGHT HAVE BEEN my great-great-grandmother, Mary Munley born 1845 or 1847.

These two, Ellen "Nellie" Reape and Michael Monelly are possible parents for my ancestor.  Trying to make the connection....

Hello THamilton
Thanks for your response!
I don't have much info on the Irish family members prior to immigration though I would be happy to exchange info to see if there is any overlap. It is certainly possible that Nellie Reap was a relative of Michael Reap (1820) who is in my family. I don't have his parents or any sibling info other than he emigrated with a sister Catherine (1810). Certainly likely that there were siblings in between. Do you have info on the family in Ireland?

I have posted the Johnson-Lebon family on Ancestry.com and geneanet.com. That would give you info on the families and dates of immigration. Or I can send you a copy of the GEDCOM directly if you would like.

Please let me know if there is any assistance I can provide with your research. I am retired and happy to help.
Warm regards

hello Michelle:
Would you please email me at * so we can discuss further? I would be happy to send you a GEDCOM of the Reap/Neville/Maloney family I have from Avoca and Pittston, PA.  and I would dearly love to get info on the family from Ireland as the only names I have are Michael and Catherine.  It definitely sounds like we are talking about the same family and I am thrilled to have found you! Thanks so much for responding!
warm regards

My name is Bob Conlon and I am researching O'Boyle, Judge, Quinn, Granahans, and more from Crossmolina / Balina areas of Mayo and the Pittston area of PA. I have Reaps who were god parents of my O'Boyles in the 1870s and 1880s. John O'Boyle married Anne Quinn in 1866 in Crossmolina area and landed in Pittston around 1873. Any connections? Thanks Bob

Also check out St. Johns Evangelical Cemetery on Market Street in Pittston. There are many Reaps there!

Hi Bob I have Catherine O'Boyle who married John Reap.  Possible sister of John O'Boyle or niece of John?  I am going to St. Johns Cemetery in a few weeks.  Not too far I live in CT.

Hi Bob and Michelle:
Sorry for the delay in responding to your inquiry.
Been having many problems with my FTM software lately and my Ancestry.com tree got corrupted with a bad synch. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how badly for several months so now must redo tons of research from Jan to today. I am NOT a happy camper.....

Bob - I did check my old tree and do not see any O'Boyles. Been working mostly on my French side since I am in FR till Nov and have a reunion in June I am trying to prepare for....I will certainly let you both know if I find any connection once I get all the most recent research back into the tree. Thanks for the tip on St Johns' Evangelical Cemetery!

Michelle - good luck with the trip to Pittston! I hope you have luck finding more info on our Reaps.
hugs
