Keith,

May not be a coincidence.  There are both DYSONs and AMPHLETTs, well at least one of each, buried at St. Nicholas according to an online index.  Using a different index, http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~wythallindex/ there are a couple of DYSONs listed.  Time frame might suggest an association.

Note 1: I have known ex-vicars have "usage" rights at the their old Church.  (Gets another member of the family on the certificate!)
Note 2:  Any birth or death certificate from then, in Kings Norton, are likely to have a relly of mine, Josiah HANDS sign them as registrar.

I would dig a little deeper on this one.

Mike,
This is all getting quite interesting - never quite understood why James Greaves Dyson came down to the Birmingham area by the 1861 Census from Lancashire as a corn dealer.  Maybe it was because there was some kind of family connection...
Being rather ignorant of the area, can you tell me where exactly St. Mary's Wythall is; and also the St. Thomas's that you refer to...?
Very best wishes,
Keith
p.s. would a marriage certificate of 1871 in King's Norton have your relative, Josiah HANDS on...!

Mike - you've been extremely busy!
As I have reached the proverbial brick wall with William DYSON, b. 1795, I shall have a really good look at all those links you've so kindly provided.
Thanks very much...
Keith

Hi again, Everyone,
I have recently uncovered a Mary AMPHLETT marrying a James DYSON in Saddleworth, West Riding,( but now comes under Oldham) in 1791.  I have also come across a rather vague Pedigree file on familysearch.org which gives details of a Mary AMPHLETT and four siblings, plus a tree that goes back another 3 or 4 generations.
The reason I describe it as vague, is that there is no location given whatsoever, nor any precise dates.  So, if anyone recognises any of this family - or is indeed researching them - and I presume Worcestershire is the best place to ask, could you reply on this thread.
There is: Mary AMPHLETT born abt. 1765  England
Elizabeth AMPHLETT born abt. 1767  England
Christian AMPHLETT born abt. 1769  England
Margaret AMPHLETT born abt. 1771  England
John AMPHLETT born 1763  England

This last-named John AMPHLETT has a death date of 1844  England, and when I looked up John AMPHLETT for the whole of England in 1844 on freebmd, only one individual came up with this name, registered in Bromsgrove.
Parents of this generation of 5 children are given as John AMPHLETT, no birthdate known, but died 22-06-1777; mother Mary HOPWOOD, born abt. 1741.
Anybody know a bit more about this particular family...?
Very best wishes,
Keith

EBN,
Do you know the titles of any of the books that he may have written, or where and how I could find out more about this man...?  Thanks very much for this.

Botany of Worcestersaire
he indexed Nash's History of Worcestershire [a massive 2 volumes set of books].

Try Worcestershire Historical Society to see if they have a biography of him
