We can add a little regarding the earlier history of Jane Renton:

Jane was born on 25 December 1827 at Cockburnspath, the daughter of George Renton and Elizabeth Anderson, who were married on 11 September 1817 at Cockburnspath. George, Elizabeth and various children are buried in Cockburnspath Churchyard.

Jane can be seen with her parents in the 1841 census:

and in the 1851 census:

http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/51transcript.aspx?houseid=73101072

Jane’s father George can be seen at Coldingham in 1861 shortly before his death:

http://www.maxwellancestry.com/census/61transcript.aspx?houseid=73204095

The death certificates of George Renton and his wife Elizabeth Anderson should give their parents’ names, taking you back to the previous generation.

Hope this helps,

Emma

Lesley, I see that you have Noble ancestors from Fraserburgh. Have you read a book called The Christian Watt Papers? It will tell you everything you could ever want to know about the Nobles of Fraserburgh, or rather, of the adjacent fishing-village of Broadsea.

As Scottish fishermen visited other ports up and down the country, they often ended up marrying a girl from another town, and some people in my home town of Cellardyke in Fife have Noble ancestry (by which I don't mean they belong to the Nobility!).
