sorry, but I don't have much information available. My aunt Margaret (Bertram's daughter) did some research into our family history, but I haven't got that information available.  I just know that Bertram came from London (East End?). My great-aunt Ethel lived in Ilford for many years, and I still have relatives in London. The ages seem to match what little information I know.

There seems to be only these two births recorded for Bertram Garnett's:

Births Mar 1896 
Garnett Bertram     mother's maiden name Cloiser W. Ham 4a 322    This one is the one shown in the 1901census aged 5

Births Sep 1914

and these two marriages:

Marriages Jun 1943 
Garnett    Bertram    Vincent    Bradford    9b   70

and these two deaths:

Garnett   Bertram   born c1897 died1962   England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007   Doncaster, Yorkshire,  Your grandfather?

Garnett   Bertram   born c1914 died 1986   England & Wales Deaths 1837-2007   Keighley, Yorkshire,

so it looks very much like your grandfather was the one born 1896 who moved to Doncaster and married there in 1922.

Hi Chris

thanks very much for the information. Yes, my grandmother's maiden name was Fox, and 1962 sounds about right for Bert's death. My father was born in 1924, the eldest of Bert's 3 children, so again the dates seem right.
