Closure of the West Search Room at the National Archives
« on: Friday 25 February 11 21:44 GMT (UK) »
The West search room of the National archives of Scotland is now closed. If you’re planning to do some research in the National archives of Scotland it would be good to review this page on their website: http://www.nas.gov.uk/searchRooms/default.asp

Almost all of the National Archives documents will now be viewed in the Historic search room with the exception of plans. It is always advisable though to phone or email them first before you visit so ensure the documents you wish to see will be there for you. Many of the documents held by the National archives are held in another building so need to be ordered 24 hours in advance of your visit.

You can search online for the reference: http://www.nas.gov.uk/onlinecatalogue/default.asp

On a personal note I’m very sad that the West search room has closed, as the smaller of the two search rooms it was always a very pleasant place to do research: http://www.rootschat.com/links/0c0q/

Anyway just thought I would post the news on here to save people a wasted trip.
