The Mystery of James Sinclair
« on: Wednesday 02 March 11 16:27 GMT (UK) »
Morning All
Any help, ideas, threads are appreciated as I have been searching for years with little hard data to support  my speculation. My James Sinclair comes out of history in 1839 with a marriage in Lanark. He dies between June 41 and Oct 44. No death records, no parents , no burial records. However I have a hunch that he had 3 siblings also living in Glassford. William, Martha and David. William was murdered in 41, but the other 2 died of natural causes in 66 and 69. Their death certificates from SP indicated their parents were a James Sinclair and an Ann Davidson. No record anywhere records this marriage or are there any birth records for the 3 sibs. The only marriage I can find is one from SP for a John Sinclair and Ann Davidson in Thurso in 1801. The date would be right but I know it's a long shot. Family tradition says the family came from Caithness but to make the connection if it exists help is required. Hope to hear from you.

I am hoping only for any information someone might have re John Sinclair and Ann Davidson in Thurso about 1801. Sometimes I get too long winded.

Thanks kathb. checked the marriage that was there but no children, so they either didn't have any, move out of the caithness area or never had them baptised.
But thanks for trying.

To Kathb
Just an update on the Sinclair/Davidson thing you tried to help me with. I found it odd that the marriage produced no registered children so I went to SP to check it out and got the image of the actual record. There is a transcription problem. The marriage took place Dec 6/1800- SP has 1801.No big deal- however, there is a little line pointing above the date to the name Gunn, written quite small, hardly noticeable which appears to have been stuff in to correct an error. So under a magnifying glass it reads Gunn Sinclair --John in Dalmore & --- Ann Davidson in Buckies. Mr. John Rose ESQ. Ormly & James Davidson ESQ. Buckies. The entire document is difficult to read. If you go to the IGI Index John Sinclair Gunn and Ann Davidson had 10 children, all of which were born in Thurso but baptised in Dalmore. The Caithness transcription site uses only John Sinclair & Ann Davidson thus no children as they were a Gunn's not Sinclair's
This information didn't further my search but may help someone else.
