1560c - nist & trewe valewe COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 05 March 11 23:42 GMT (UK) »
In my 1560s Complaint I have a section that says;

your said Orator knoweth not the certeintie of the said goods plate Jewelles utensiles and principalles aforesaid nor the nist or trewe [true] valewe [value] of them having theof no Inventore"

In this context, does anyone know what "nist" means (if I have the right translation)?

Regards
Grantley

In Scots, neist or nist means next or nearest, and this seems to be the meaning here - the nearest or true value.

Graham.
