Guidance - Requesting a Yorkshire Census Lookup

I thought it might be useful to provide some tips about what you need to get the best results from a lookup.  In all cases it is beneficial to provide as much information you already have on the individual(s) concerned.

1841 Census
The 1841 census for Yorkshire generally has NO surname index, so providing an address as well as the appropriate Parish/District is practically essential.

1851 Census
There are some 1851 census surname indexes but providing an address as well as a Parish/District will give the best chances of a successful lookup.

1861 Census
This is online pay-per-view here: www.1837online.com/Trace2web/

1871 & 1891 Censuses
These censuses are available online at www.ancestry.co.uk. This is a fee-based site.

1881 Census
This census is available on the LDS site, free and accessible for all at: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

1901 Census
The 1901 census is online www.ancestry.co.uk (fee-based), with the addition of being available direct from the National Archives, at http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk (also, fee-based)

I hope this guidance is of help.

Best wishes
