CLAVELL FAMILY OF WHATCOMBE
« on: Wednesday 09 March 11 20:47 GMT (UK) »
I have a question that is a yes/no answer. I am curious to know if the author James Clavell is from the Clavell family of Smedmore, Whatcombe, which is now I believe the Mansel-Pleydell property.
I know James Clavell is a son of Commander Richard Clavell who was posted to Australia.
There was also a John Clavell Mansel-Pleydell who was a man of note and who died in 1902.
I have Mansel ancestors from Oxwich Castle, Glamorgan and I believe this family are descended from the same family.
The Pleydell family also links into my earlier family as is the Maltravers/Matravers family.
I just wondered if the author was of this family.
