1822- Christ Church, Tynemouth
« on: Thursday 10 March 11 16:39 GMT (UK) »
If anyone has access to parish records, I am looking for the marriage record of William Surby and Mary Atkinson at Christ Church.  I am hoping for parent's names.

Groom's Name: William Surby
Bride's Name:    Mary Atkinson
Marriage Date: 13 Aug 1822
Marriage Place: Tynemouth, Northumberland, England

Thanks,
Andrea

Hi Andrea,
Welcome to RootsChat
Under Hardwicke's Marriage Act 1753, and the later 1812 Act, the information recorded in the parish register are the names of the bride and groom, their parish, the date and place, whether the marriage was by banns or licence, the consent of the parents if either of the couple were under the age of 21, the marital status of the bride and groom, and the names of witnesses. The parents names are not given.
You can see examples of parish registers from various periods at  http://www.rootschat.com/links/0619/   although intended for Durham most of the information is general. Clicking on the images of the registers will enlarge them.

Hi,

Thanks both, I was afraid of that. I guess I will have to look for the baptismal record for William Surby/Southby but I haven't had an luck so far on Family Search.

abt 1797 Otford, Kent, England, although other information says Sevenoaks.

Andrea

Have you tried the familysearch beta site as well as the original one?  Also there is freereg - though I don't know what the coverage is like for Kent.
