Lovely to hear from you Gaynor.

I'll pm you later and fill in the blanks for you.  Can i be cheeky and ask who your mother and father was?

Hi John,
I was interested in your comment that Narberth supported one sergeant and one constable.
My g-g-grandfather was a police constable in Narberth for a short time, between leaving the Royal Marines in1860 and being transferred to police duties in St David's sometime later in the 1860s.
Would there be anything at Narberth Museum about his service there, I wonder?
His name was Lewis Lewis
Thanks, Elaine

Welshnewspapers on line   http://newspapers.library.wales

click on link and search for "lewis lewis" (include the "   " as part of search key)
There's a mention in The Pembrokeshire Herald 15 Dec 1865 or Potter's Electric Gazette 20 Dec 1865 about PC No 21.
Might be your Lewis Lewis?

Thank you Hanes Teulu,
Yes this is my chap. I have found reports for Feb 1864 fwd in the NLW newspapers for him in St Davids, but nothing ever for him in Narberth - I think he must have done his training in Narberth and then been deployed to St Davids. Thanks for your reaponse.
Next time I go to Narberth, I will pop into the museum, I think - just in case...!
Elaine

Here is the gravestone of John Henton, Police Constable of Maenclochog, in St Tysilio Churchyard, Llandissilio.
It's a poor photo, done 20 years ago. Also the Welsh Newspapers online do have various mentions of him connected with local crimes, e.g. chicken stealing.
