BRAYNION
« on: Sunday 13 March 11 20:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi there,
new to this, but looking to find information on my dad's family. Surname Braynion. They lived in Lanark for as long as I know, however my Grandfather, Archie, I believe grew up in Crieff. Not really sure where to start. There are not many of us....at least that is what I thought until I started searching the internet.

Please help.
Thanks.

Hi there,
Don't know if this will be any help but I have been researching the name Breingan.  They are mainly in the Perthshire and Clackmannanshire area and have found that within the same family the spelling of the name varies from record to record.

I have found Breingan recorded as Braynion, Brainion, Bringan, Bringans, Brangan and in one record Brennan. Have no idea what the original name really was.

I have a William Breingan born in Alva in 1858 married to an Isabella Bennett. I have found 10 children for them born in Rottearn, Dunblane. The eldest two were John Braynion 1780 and William Braynion 1783. The rest of the family were Breingan although Margaret 1801 is recorded as Braynion when she gets married. William and Isabella are my 4x great grandparents and my branch of the family spell it Breingan but some of their descendants are Bringan and it could be that some of the other alternative spellings have been used as well. I googled the name and found that somone had already done research on the name and I was able
to check the information with the records.
Hope this is of some use.
Good luck

Paul, I used to go to Clydebank with grampa to his sister Margarets in the 60's/70's. I also went with him to visit his sister Belle in the Gorbals around the same time. I don't recall their married names though. x

Hi,
I have Braynion's in my family tree. Most of them were born around Muthill, Perth. It would be good if you could contact me and hopefully we can help 1 another.

Hi, I am new to this and trying to find out information about my Gran's family.  From reading your post, I think your Grandpa, Archie was my Gran's brother.  Her name was Margaret and her married name was Ross.  She lived in Clydebank and had 2 sons, Robert (Bob) and Frank. Frank was my dad.
I appreciate your post was from many years ago. We know very little about my Gran's family, only that she worked in one of the big houses in Crieff and had a brother Archie and a sister Bella.  There may be other siblings we don't know about.  Thank you

Hi SandiL , welcome to RC  :)

Could this be your Gran's family ?
1911 Census , Crieff , Perth.
Margaret Braynion 37
William Braynion 12
Margaret Braynion 9(your Gran ?)
Isabella Braynion 3
Archibald Braynion 0

Have you looked at https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ to confirm details for your family ?
