All Saints Church Cemetery in Chorlton-Upon-Medlock
« on: Wednesday 16 March 11 05:58 GMT (UK) »
Is there any way to get a transcription of a headstone in All Saints Church Cemetery in Chorlton-Upon-Medlock?  I am looking for Dennis Prendergast buried May 26, 1846.

Hi,

Not sure if it is still there or whether the remains are still buried and the stones have been covered or removed  ??? as so much of that area has been redeveloped.

Probably if there are any MI's they will be at Manchester Archives:-

There are some old photographs of the cemetery on the Manchester Images website:-

Looking at the pictures there seemed to be some quite impressive looking graves in there.

cathyvall - the churchyard is now a park - took me a while to find a link, but here is one:
http://manchesterhistory.net/manchester/churches/allsaints.html

As Luzzu says Manchester Local Studies hold what there is - the Central Library is being repaired/re-organised so things are elsewhere - contact details on this link:

Had a feeling it would be a park or something as they don't normally put buildings on top of former cemeteries.  Chorlton Row (Rusholme Road) Dissenters Cemetery is a park/play area too  :(.

Hi,

I know this is of no practical use, but thought you might be interested to see this:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0c9w/

link is to a painting of All Saints by Adolphe Valette, in Manchester Art Gallery.

It also shows the old Register Office where births and deaths of the area were recorded.
Plenty of yours would have gone there Luzzu!  :D

Do a search in the Gallery website for Valette and you get several more beautiful images of Manchester in the 1900s.
Makes a change from Lowry!

Thanks Barbara for posting that link  :D.  I think the pictures are beautiful and I haven't come across this artist before so I will be reading more about him now.
